Turkey arrests +1,6k possible ISIL members since Jan.

ANKARA, Jul. 02 (MNA) – The Turkish national security services arrested 1,654 possible members of the terrorist group ISIL in the six first months of the year, as revealed by a report from the Turkish Interior Minister Friday.

Only in June, 106 possible ISIL members were arrested, according to the report.

Turkish Interior Minister Efkan Ala confirmed in recent statements that most of the captures took place in the southern provinces of Gaziantep, Kilis, Mersin, Kahramanmaras and Antalya, and the western provinces of Esmirna and Manisa.

An important number of the extremists came across of the authorities after operations developed in the central provinces of Yozgat and Ankara while some of the arrests were located in Bursa and Istanbul, to the northwest.

Of the total of arrested members, 663 remain imprisoned while a good part of them were already deported or liberated on bail, added the source.

The operations against the ISIL in the country increased in the last 72 hours after an attack on Tuesday in the airport of Ataturk (Istanbul) attributed to this group, in which 43 persons died and another 239 turned out to be injured.

The Turkish Police confirmed the raids in 16 neighborhoods of Istanbul and Smyrna, which led until now to the detention of approximately 20 persons related to the offense.
